Progress Report: Sophia

Today was the last official day for the girls to attend Roxana's daycare. Sophia started there when she was only 20 months old. Roxana is so wonderful. Now we are preparing for their first day of preschool at Ducks Nest next Tuesday.

Sophia is making a lot of progress on several fronts. She is very interested in spelling and reading. I can write simple words and names for her and she can read them. She is also always asking me how things are spelled. She has always loved coloring and painting and now she is very interested in drawing. Her images are looking very realistic, much more realistic in the last few weeks. She can also write her own name. The letters are legible but they don't appear in a straight line yet. She still has a very good attention span.

She also still has her imaginary friend, Audrey, who surfaced while we were in Seattle about one month ago. Every day she shares elaborate stories about things she has learned from Audrey, plans she has for going on vacation with her, etc. On one occasion she invited another imaginary friend, Shonan, to dinner and left so that we could all dine with Shonan sans Sophia. That was interesting. She would tell us that she was allergic to certain foods, as a way to avoid eating what we were eating. Then she instructed me to pretend to be Shonan's mom arriving to pick Shonan up. At that point she told me that Sophia's Daddy tried to feed her foods she was allergic to.

This next month she will resume ballet lessons with Paula and will start Songbird Chorus at the Crowden Music School in Berkeley.
