Live music at the cheese board and then gelato!

A few days ago, on Saturday, we listened to some live music at the cheese board. Hank played and Sophia danced while we ate some delicious pizza. Then we headed over to Epicurious Garden for some gelato.

A story for Nana's birthday:

Two Butterflies
By Sophia Savage
6/17/11

A butterfly flew on a flower. Her name was Roxy and she was purple. The flower was pink. She wanted to drink nectar.

Her friend, Nana was also a butterfly and she was drinking nectar on a flower nearby. She was a yellow butterfly and her flower was pink, too.

They were having a snack together on a sunny day, singing softly and flapping their wings carefully, very sweet, and slowly.

The nectar tasted like cherry.

And then they flied away together.

Congratulations, Nirmala and Joseph

Today Nirmala and Joseph exchanged wedding vows in Scotland. 5am PST. I wish we could have been there to celebrate with them, but we will celebrate with them in August up in Seattle. I will post a photo once I have one.

Lake Anza, finally

Today we spent a glorious sunny day at Lake Anza in Tilden Park. I had never been there before! and I want to spend many days here. Its perfect for little kids. Very calm and protected. Mari came with us.

Quote from Sophia:

Also at this fourth of July picnic, Sophia and Sasha were very interested in Vika's pregnant belly (she is due next month). Vika was letting the girls feel the baby's kicks. Sophia told Vika: "He wants to come out and play. Do you ever let him come out?"

Fourth of July at Memorial Park and on Keoncrest

For July 4th we went to the Memorial Park Celebration and then headed over to the annual party at Keoncrest, where we used to live (in Berkeley). It was great to see our old neighbors and friends, Rosie and Stefan and their kids: Ethan, Nikolas and Eleanor, and also Vika and Andy and their little boy, Elias. They are expecting another boy in August. We also saw Aliza and her daughter, Sasha, who Sophia has always liked a lot. The two of them did face painting and colored with chalk and jumped in the jumpy house.

Bye Bye Crib!

Thalia has officially made the transition from crib to bed. This morning Steve took apart Thalia's crib. She is ready to sleep in her own bed. I am not sure if I am ready yet for Sophia to sleep in the top bunk but she seems pretty ready. Look at that smile. She has been napping in the bottom bunk for awhile now but tonight is the first night sleeping in the bed. So far so good....

To the Kensington Farmer's Market with Thalia

On Sunday while Steve and Sophia went to the Vivarium to look at tarantulas and snakes, Thalia and I had a leisurely walk up to the Kensington Farmer's Market. We each pushed our own baby stroller. Once there she helped me select fruit and then we stopped for a treat at Semifreddis.

Yum!

Meet Lulu

Meet Lulu, Mari's dog who lives next door. She is part beagle and part dachsund and she watches our every move when we eat outside in the backyard. We can see her little face looking at us from under the gate that separates Mari's backyard from ours. Thalia and Sophia love this dog and she is the same age as Thalia. How long will it take for Sophia to get a dog of her own? She asks for her own dog every day now. And she stops to pet other dogs, always asking the owners, first if their dog is friendly.

Crab Cove

Throwing Rocks at Alameda's Crab Cove

On Friday afternoon we headed over to Alameda's Crab Cove and had a little picnic. Both girls loved throwing rocks into the bay. What a lovely afternoon it was. We are so lucky to live is such a beautiful area.

A pretty little girl

To the zoo with Bailey

On Friday morning we met Bailey and her Mom, Renica at the Oakland Zoo. Bailey is just about to become a big sister to a little baby boy, due in August. The girls had lots of fun looking at the flamingos, giraffes, a tiger, a lion, and elephants. Sophia insisted on carrying crayons and paper most of the time. And she gave Bailey two presents, one bobbly cat that she painted, and another pink princess crown. She loves Bailey so much.

Ice cream with Mari!

Last Wednesday evening Mari joined us for ice cream at our local ice creamery!
